Two pilots aboard a Naval Air Training Command jet had to eject on Tuesday, ultimately landing safely on farmland in Mississippi.

The command said in a release that the pilots were flying a T-45C Goshawk jet at about 12:30 p.m. when it went down. Following their ejection, they were evaluated at a local medical facility.

Navy officials did not say what led to the crash. The two pilots, neither of whom was named publicly, landed in Noxubee County in eastern Mississippi.

The pilots are with Training Air Wing One, Navy officials said. The wing is based at Naval Air Station Meridian, 65 miles south of Noxubee County.

Naval Air Training Command said the incident was being investigated.

The T-45C Goshawk has been in use as a trainer jet for Navy and Marine Corps pilots since the early 1990s. The Navy plans to select an aircraft to replace it in March, according to military news site Breaking Defense, with plans to buy 216 new planes.
