The Toronto Blue Jays came through with a dominant 8-1 win over the Miami Marlins at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday night. This was a bit of a surprising victory because the Blue Jays had strong offensive production without their star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec, who was out with an elbow injury.
The most significant Blue Jays hit came in the bottom of the sixth inning and two out. That is when right fielder Jesus Sanchez hit a grand slam, and closed out the scoring.
Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer led Toronto with three hits. Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho led the Blue Jays with two runs scored.
For the second straight week, the Blue Jays used the opener effectively with Braydon Fisher as the starting pitcher. On May 21, the Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 2-0 at Yankee Stadium. Just like last week in New York, Spencer Miles pitched very effectively in relief. On Tuesday, Miles got the win after giving up one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. He has now given up only one earned run in his last 15 1/3 innings pitched. For the season, Miles has an excellent earned run average of 2.16.
The Blue Jays are now at 26 wins and 29 losses for the year. They are one game back of the Minnesota Twins for a playoff spot.
