Kate Gosselin Breaks Down, Regrets Adopting New Baby
After divorcing Jon, the show was rebranded Kate Plus 8, featuring her as a single mother. But raising that many kids on her own wasn’t easy. She has strained relationships with several of them now that they’re older.
Twins Mady and Cara, 25, live in New York City. The sextuplets turned 22 in early May. Four of them, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel, live with or near her in North Carolina. Hannah and Collin, who isn’t on speaking terms with his mother, live near Jon.
Kate Gosselin isn’t an empty-nester just yet. However, her kids are adults and need her less. She adopted a new baby and shared all about it on TikTok. She joined the platform last year and quickly gained millions of followers. The former TLC star revealed her plans last month to adopt a new baby.
Kate Gosselin revealed in April that she was in the process of adopting a Malinois mix named Chiqis with her live-in boyfriend, former bodyguard Steve Neild. She renamed the pup Koda and brought the rescue dog home in May. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been an easy transition for her or her other dog, a German shepherd named Meika.
“I was just crying this morning. I’m tired. It’s getting to be a lot, which makes me sound like a baby, but the truth is, I’ve just been on watch constantly hoping nothing, you know, happens and watching them all the time,” she said in an emotional TikTok video.
She added, “I am 51 now. I’m not 29, 30. So it’s just gotten to be a lot.”
She Breaks Down In Tears With Regrets
Kate Gosselin’s social media video shared an update on day 12 since adopting the puppy. She broke down in tears, wondering if she had made the right choice.
“Koda is a humongous personality. She is now very obsessed with her ball, equally as Meika, and she could run forever. So, we’re seeing the humongous energy of a malamute now, and I’m really starting to doubt myself,” she shared.

Kate Gosselin revealed that the puppy had already destroyed an item in her home that held significant emotional value for her. The puppy chewed up the bed that belonged to her beloved dog, Nanuq, who passed away in late 2025.
Despite her misgivings over the adoption, Kate Gosselin isn’t giving up and is determined to make it work. “But at the end of the day, probably no one else would have saved her. So I know that we’re doing a good thing. We just have to hang in,” she said about her new baby.
