Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have scored a combined 73 goals on their way to Saturday’s Champions League final in Budapest.

The holders lead the way with 44 goals, but Arsenal account for five of the seven headed goals between the teams and have struck six times from outside the box to Paris’ seven from long range.

There have been plenty of spectacular efforts along the way, with a special mention for Vitinha, whose total of three goals from outside the penalty area has not been bettered by any player in this season’s competition.

101GreatGoals takes a look at 10 of the best goals from the finalists in this season’s competition, including two by the leading marksman still involved, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

    Table of Contents

    • Noni Madueke (Brugge vs Arsenal, Champions League MD6)
    • Gabriel Martinelli (Brugge vs Arsenal, Champions League MD6)
    • Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG vs Atalanta, Champions League MD1)
    • Ousmane Dembele (PSG vs Atalanta, Champions League R16 L1)
    • Eberechi Eze (Arsenal vs Leverkusen, Champions League QF L2)
    • Declan Rice (Arsenal vs Leverkusen, Champions League QF L2)
    • Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG vs Chelsea, Champions League R16 L1)
    • Viktor Gyokeres (Inter vs Arsenal, Champions League MD7)
    • Desire Doue (Leverkusen vs PSG, Champions League MD3)
    • Ousmane Dembele (Liverpool vs PSG, Champions League R16 L2)

Noni Madueke (Brugge vs Arsenal, Champions League MD6)

“Sweet” and “really nice” was how summer signing Madueke described his magnificent strike for the opener in a 3-0 stroll at Brugge, charging towards the penalty area before unleashing a left-footed finish that crashed in via the underside of the crossbar. The England international added a tap-in for his third goal in two matches in the competition.

Gabriel Martinelli (Brugge vs Arsenal, Champions League MD6)

Martinelli has some wonderful goals in this season’s competition – a composed finish from Eberchie Eze’s sensational long pass against Bayern Munich deserves a mention – and this was another, turning outside the box and floating the ball into the far corner of the net.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG vs Atalanta, Champions League MD1)

The first of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s 10 goals in the campaign came after 39 minutes of PSG’s league phase, spinning in an unpromising position beyond the halfway line on the right and rampaging forward, then hammering the second of his side’s four goals without reply from the edge of the box. A scintillating statement of intent as part of a 4-0 home win.

Ousmane Dembele (PSG vs Atalanta, Champions League R16 L1)

Chelsea almost took the lead through Cole Palmer’s shot seconds before Ousmane Dembele put PSG 2-1 ahead in Paris.

When Matvei Safonov parried the effort, Achraf Hakimi’s quick-thinking pass from the rebound allowed Desire Doue to slalom into space and find Dembele near the halfway line with a defence-splitting ball. The recipient made light work of beating two defenders and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, ending a twisting run with a ruthless strike.

Eberechi Eze (Arsenal vs Leverkusen, Champions League QF L2)

Eberechi Eze left most of the celebrating to the astonished home crowd after opening his Champions League account, blasting in from distance on the turn to put Arsenal on course to knock out Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate.

“You talk about technique and making contact with the ball, then you see the reaction of the players all around him,” marvelled Arteta, who reacted in suitable style on the sideline. “That’s why he’s here.”

Declan Rice (Arsenal vs Leverkusen, Champions League QF L2)

The game went beyond Leverkusen when Rice gallivanted to collect a clearance midway inside the visitors’ half, pushed the ball on and rolled a low finish past Janis Blaswich from outside the box.

“We need to do that more often,” urged Arteta, praising the midfielder for “an incredible moment”.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG vs Chelsea, Champions League R16 L1)

Vitinha’s delightful lob put PSG ahead at home to Chelsea but Kvaratskhelia stole the show and won the Player of the Match award with two goals and an assist after coming on in the 62nd minute of the 5-2 win.

The Georgia international’s first was pure magic: cutting inside from the left, surging towards the box and arcing the ball beyond the helpless Sanchez. Kvaratskhelia struck again after six minutes of the return leg in the 8-2 aggregate romp.

Viktor Gyokeres (Inter vs Arsenal, Champions League MD7)

Many teams might have found a trip to last season’s finalists onerous, but the final goal was only one of the highlights of Arsenal’s 3-1 win at Inter.

Martinelli’s visionary pass with the outside of his right foot from near his penalty area on the left started the move, sending Gyokeres bustling clear. Bukayo Saka’s miscontrol inadvertently teed the striker up to curl in for a goal worthy of Martinelli’s masterful delivery.

Desire Doue (Leverkusen vs PSG, Champions League MD3)

With the scoreline 1-1 after 39 minutes and both sides reduced to 10 players, Doue scored either side of a Kvaratskhelia goal to put PSG out of sight before half-time in their 7-2 win at Leverkusen.

The France prodigy’s first came from a sharp one-two with Kvaratskhelia, but his second was better: shifting in from the left and sweeping a shot into the far corner.

Ousmane Dembele (Liverpool vs PSG, Champions League R16 L2)

By the standards of a 2-0 first-leg defeat during which they did not have an attempt at goal, Liverpool had a respectable go at an impossible-looking job in the second leg.

Dembele nonchalantly ended any resistance with two inside the final 20 minutes, teeing himself up to curl the long-range first under Giorgi Mamardashvili’s dive. Disguising the difficulty of goals like this is one of the reasons why the France forward holds the Ballon d’Or.
