Last year, Today co-host Sheinelle Jones has shared losing a few of the important people in her life, including her spouse, Uche Ojeh, over the past few years with fans. Recently, Jones opened up about her grief process. This included a surprising source of comfort during this time: CNN alum Anderson Cooper.
Sheinelle Jones Recently Sat Down With Anderson Cooper During His Podcast Series
Jones joined Today back in 2014, initially serving as part of Weekend Today. Recently, she and Jenna Hager Bush have taken over for the show’s fourth hour, Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. She is also known for hosting the Wild Child segment for The More You Know block.
In her personal life, Jones married Uche Ojeh in 2007, sharing three children together. On May 23, 2025, Today announced that she had passed away. At the time, Jones had been away from the show during the preceding months to help take care of him.
Recently, Jones made an appearance on Anderson Cooper’s All There Is podcast. During this time, she revealed that the CNN host helped her during her grief journey through his podcast.
Jones shared, “You have been, and I mean this so sincerely, the soundtrack to my healing. You, along with all of the people that you’ve talked with, when you hear other people share, it is healing, and you don’t feel as isolated; you feel less alone. And so, I feel like you’ve created this beautiful quilt of nurturing our hearts, and so, I am honored to be part of this quilt.”
Jones’ comments appeared to be in reference to the podcast itself, which Cooper launched in 2022. During the show, he and guests often open up with their own grief journeys. Anderson himself has dealt with a number of losses over the years, including his parents, Wyatt Emory Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt, and his brother, Carter.
Many Fans Shared Words Of Support After Sheinelle’s Share With Cooper
During the discussion, Jones talked about how she struggled to accept what was going on, even after hospice care was suggested for Ojeh. However, she also reflected on how it was hard for her to watch her three children deal with the loss of their father.
Jones admitted, “It’s excruciating that I can’t take that pain away, that they have to learn how to deal with it and wrestle with it and hold it and make it make sense. And so, I’m left trying to figure out how to nurture their hearts.”

In addition, Ojeh wasn’t the only person Jones recently lost. She also endured the death of her grandmother, Josephine Vonceal Pace Brown, earlier this year. During the conversation, Cooper surprised Jones with archival footage of Brown singing with her choir.
With the post being shared on social media, many fans shared words of support with both Jones and Cooper. Many discussed the importance of telling these stories. Some comments included:
- “This is THE person I’ve waited for on this podcast. Thank you for having this beautiful woman on your pod Anderson.”
- “My heart truly goes out to Sheinelle and her children. R.W.G. Uche Ojeh.”
- “It takes a lot to open yourself up this much. Thank you for this.”
- “Thank you, so much, Sheinelle and Anderson, listening to you tell your stories about grief is the one thing that has truly helped me.”
