    The National Football Foundation (NFF) has put Matt Dunigan on the ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2027. The list of potential inductees was announced on Monday.

    The five-foot-eleven, 199-pound passer played collegiately at Louisiana Tech University, where he was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year in 1982. He completed 49.9 percent of his passes for 7,010 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 50 interceptions over 44 games with the Bulldogs, going 21-22-1 as a starter. He also rushed for 125 yards and nine scores.

    The native of Lakewood, Ohio was a one-time first-team All-American and helped Louisiana Tech lead the Southland Conference in total offence three times. He was inducted into the Louisiana Tech University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

    Dunigan played 14 seasons in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Edmonton Football Team, B.C. Lions, Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Birmingham Barracudas, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, throwing for 43,857 yards, 303 touchdowns, and 211 interceptions. He was a three-time All-CFL selection, two-time Grey Cup champion, and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

    The 65-year-old served as an analyst for TSN from 1999 to 2024, save for one year he spent as the head coach and general manager of the Calgary Stampeders in 2004.

    Dunigan is one of nearly 100 players in the divisional player candidate capsule. Other players on the ballot with CFL connections including quarterback Brad Banks, running back Timothy Flanders, receivers Archie Amerson and Tony Miles, and coach Steve McAdoo.

    “For more than seven decades, the NFF College Football Hall of Fame has preserved the legacy of the game’s greatest players and coaches, ensuring their stories continue to inspire future generations,” said NFF president and CEO Steve Hatchell in a statement.

    “Being named to this ballot places these remarkable individuals among an exceptionally elite group whose achievements helped shape college football history. We are proud to celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to the selection of the next Hall of Fame class.”

    Next year’s inductees College Football Hall of Fame Class will be announced in early 2027. 1,129 players have been inducted since its inception in 1951.
