Last month, Google announced a bunch of new updates coming to Android, including Gemini Intelligence. Ahead of bringing Gemini Intelligence to the masses, Google’s June Android Drop brings alerts for fake phone calls and can help you plan your outfit.
Phone by Google can now tell if a call is actually coming from your contact’s device. If a scammer pretends to call from a number you trust, you’ll get a warning, and it’ll end the call fast. This is first rolling out to Pixel devices globally before launching on other handsets. Funny enough, I’m not sure how this will work with someone like me who’s constantly swapping devices, but that’s not the case with most users.
Google Photos is trying to be your own digital closet, letting you mix and match outfits and try them on virtually. Google Photos wardrobe is cataloguing the clothes you’re wearing in your photo library by turning them into shots that you can browse on your phone.
This is rolling out next week, but starting in the U.S., India and Brazil with Android 10+. I expect Canadians won’t have to wait too long for this feature, though.
Coming soon, kids under 13 will get access to helpful features in the Personal Safety app, such as displaying medical information and setting emergency contacts on the device lock screen. Kids will soon be able to turn on car crash detection, so if they’re on a bus or their friend’s parents’ car, you’ll know if there are any emergencies. Teens will also be able to use features like Safety Check and real-time sharing with their emergency contacts through Personal Safety.
Google Play Books is getting ‘Catch me up,’ a feature which lets you recap what you’ve read so far. Another update lets users highlight a passage to ask questions and dive deeper into a theme or character without having to go on Google.
And you’ll start seeing Quick Share working with AirDrop on more Android devices.
