President Donald Trump recently sat down for an interview with Meet the Press. However, things took a turn, especially towards the end of the interview, including an abrupt exit. The interviewer later weighed in on the story on social media.
President Donald Trump Previously Appeared On Meet The Press In 2023
Meet the Press is a Sunday morning talk show airing on NBC and serves as one of the longest-running programs on American television. Kristen Welker took over hosting duties on the show in 2023, having previously worked for NBC News.
Welker’s original debut featured an interview with President Donald Trump before being elected to his second term. Recently, Trump once again sat down for an interview with her.
The interview was set in a barn, with Trump appearing at an event with farmers in Wisconsin. Reportedly, it had been delayed due to weather and technical difficulties.
During the interview, the president claimed both the current primary elections in California and the 2020 presidential election had been “rigged.” When pressed for evidence, he shared, “All I have to do is look, and I listen.”
Kristen Welker Later Discussed The Interview On Social Media
Welker once again felt that there was no evidence of this claim, which caused Trump to label the network as “crooked,” adding that “a country can never be great with a dishonest press.” Trump ultimately got up and walked away, with Welker noting that she traveled to Wisconsin for the interview.
Things also got heated during the interview when Welker asked whether the people involved in the January 6 Capitol attack should receive taxpayer money. Trump shared that each case would be looked at individually. He later claimed that federal agents had encouraged protesters. Welker similarly claimed that there was no evidence of this, also citing guilty pleas tied to assaults.
On Sunday morning, Welker took to Instagram to share that her interview with Trump was “unfortunately complicated by weather issues.” Ultimately, she took a positive view on the conversation, sharing, “In spite of those challenges, we still had a substantial conversation on issues from the Iran war to the economy to the so-called ‘anti-weaponization’ fund.”
