Bangladesh and Australia resumed their ODI rivalry in the second match of the three-game series, with the visitors looking to bounce back after their defeat in the opening encounter. After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first, hoping to put a substantial total on the board and level the series.

However, Bangladesh’s pace attack once again made an immediate impact. The hosts had already troubled Australia’s batting lineup in the first ODI, and they wasted no time in applying pressure in the second match as well. Taskin Ahmed, operating with the new ball, produced another dream start for Bangladesh and left Australia reeling inside the very first over.

The crucial breakthrough came on the fourth ball of Australia’s innings. Taskin bowled a probing good-length delivery from outside the off stump that shaped back sharply into the left-handed Matthew Short. Expecting the ball to hold its line, Short decided to leave the delivery alone. However, the movement off the seam deceived him completely as the ball jagged back in and crashed into the off stump. The Australian opener was left stunned as his dismissal triggered loud celebrations among the Bangladesh players.

The wicket was particularly significant because it marked the second consecutive match in which Taskin had dismissed Short in the opening over. In the first ODI, the Bangladesh quick had removed the Australian batter on the very first ball of the chase, and he once again got the better of him with the new ball. For Short, the dismissal continued a difficult run of form, with the left-hander registering his third consecutive duck in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, Bangladesh seized the early momentum and immediately put Australia under pressure.

Mustafizur Rahman leads Bangladesh’s charge after early breakthrough

Taskin’s early strike set the tone for another dominant bowling performance from Bangladesh. The hosts continued to chip away at the Australian batting lineup, with Mustafizur Rahman emerging as the chief destroyer. The experienced left-arm pacer struck regularly and picked up three important wickets as Australia struggled to build partnerships. Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, making run-scoring extremely difficult on a surface that offered assistance to the seamers.

At the time of writing, Australia were in deep trouble at 66/4 in 16 overs, with Josh Inglis and Cameron Green attempting to rebuild the innings. Taskin had claimed one wicket, while Mustafizur’s three-wicket haul left the visitors searching for stability. With the series delicately poised and Bangladesh eyeing another statement victory, the hosts once again demonstrated why their bowling attack has become one of the most dangerous units in home conditions.
