Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta and Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia each won bronze medals on Wednesday in a Diamond League event in Oslo, Norway. Arop placed third in the men’s 800 metres and Mitton placed third in the women’s shot put.
Arop had a third place time of 1:43.33. Cooper Lutkenhaus of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 1:42.08. Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won the silver medal with a time of 1:42.09. Arop reached the podium by 0.28 seconds. Tobias Gronstad of Norway finished in fourth place with a time of 1:43.61.
In the Diamond League standings, Arop is in third place with 13 points. Lutkenhaus leads with 16 points and Wanyonyi is second with 14 points.
Mitton had a third place throw of 19.89 metres. Chase Jackson of the United States won the gold medal with a throw of 20.74 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a throw of 20.11 metres. Mitton reached the podium by 0.7 metres over Yemisi Mabry of Germany, who had a fourth place throw of 19.19 metres.
In the Diamond League standings, Mitton is third with 18 points. Schilder leads with 23 points and Jackson is second with 22 points.
Arop has now won 22 Diamond League medals. He has five gold medals, nine silver medals and eight bronze medals. Mitton has now won 18 Diamond League medals. She has two gold medals, eight silver medals and eight bronze medals. The bronze medals for Arop and Mitton will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
