Australia survived a late collapse to secure a thrilling one-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on June 14, 2026. Chasing 275 for victory, the visitors appeared to be cruising thanks to a magnificent innings from Cooper Connolly before Bangladesh fought back through Shoriful Islam’s sensational spell.

It was Adam Zampa who struck the winning boundary with just one wicket remaining as Australia finished on 277/9 to deny the hosts a series whitewash. Despite the defeat, Bangladesh claimed the three-match ODI series 2-1 after winning the opening two encounters.

Bangladesh’s middle order powers hosts to a competitive total

After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh recovered from an early setback to post a competitive 274/5 from their 50 overs. Xavier Bartlett struck with the second ball of the match to remove Soumya Sarkar, but the hosts rebuilt through useful contributions from Tanzid Hasan and stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The backbone of Bangladesh’s innings came from Towhid Hridoy, who played a fluent knock of 83 from 87 deliveries. The right-hander struck eight boundaries and stitched together crucial partnerships that helped stabilize the innings. Litton Das also looked in excellent touch, compiling an unbeaten 58 before briefly leaving the field due to cramps and later returning to finish the innings strongly.

Mosaddek Hossain continued his impressive comeback to ODI cricket with a valuable 56, combining effectively with Hridoy in a productive partnership during the middle overs. Australia’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate as Bangladesh steadily built momentum. However, the hosts failed to fully capitalize at the death, adding only 32 runs in the final five overs despite Litton’s late six. Bartlett, Ben Dwarshuis and part-time spinner Matt Renshaw chipped in with important wickets to keep the total within reach.

Cooper Connolly’s masterclass seals dramatic victory for Australia

Australia’s chase was built almost entirely around an extraordinary innings from Connolly, who delivered the finest ODI performance of his young career. Josh Inglis provided an early spark before falling to Shoriful Islam, who then dismissed Renshaw in the same over to put Australia under pressure. Alex Carey’s departure left the visitors wobbling, but Connolly found support from Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green and Oliver Peake through a series of valuable partnerships.

Connolly reached his maiden ODI century in the 31st over and continued to dominate the Bangladesh attack. His three consecutive sixes off Taskin Ahmed in the 45th over appeared to put Australia firmly in control. The left-hander eventually smashed 149 from 134 deliveries, including 13 fours and six towering sixes. Shoriful removed Peake, Bartlett and Dwarshuis while finishing with exceptional figures of 6/48. When Connolly was dismissed in the 49th over, Australia still required four runs with only one wicket remaining.

Bangladesh sensed an unlikely victory, but Zampa held his nerve under immense pressure. The veteran leg-spinner struck the decisive boundary to complete a memorable chase and seal a dramatic one-wicket win for Australia in one of the most entertaining ODIs of the year.
