Brazilian star Neymar trained on the sidelines on Tuesday for the first time since arriving in the U.S. for the World Cup.

The forward performed running drills and worked out with a member of coach Carlo Ancelotti’s staff, as seen in videos released by the Brazil Football Confederation. The confederation called the training in Morristown, N.J., “another step in (Neymar’s) recovery process.”

Neymar, 34, suffered a Grade 2 right calf injury May 17 while playing for Santos and hadn’t been seen training with Brazil in the month since.

Brazil played to a 1-1 draw with Morocco on Saturday. They next play Haiti on Friday, then face off with Scotland on June 24 to complete Group C competition.

The team hopes that Neymar will return to play for the knockout stages.

“Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible,” Ancelotti told reporters before the Morocco game. “The expectation is that he will recover and rejoin the group next week.”

Neymar last played for Brazil on Oct. 17, 2023, when he tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee in a South American qualifier against Uruguay.
