Simon Cowell has created several massively successful reality TV competitions. He has an eye for finding the next big star on America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent. His entire career is in the media. However, he has a very strict policy when it comes to using technology at home. His fiance, Lauren Silverman, spilled all the details. Keep reading to find out why he ditched his cell phone years ago.
Simon Cowell Has Strict No-Tech Household
Simon Cowell’s fiance, Lauren Silverman, has been opening up about their relationship like never before. In a recent podcast interview, she shared how difficult it was when her affair with the America’s Got Talent judge was exposed. An unexpected pregnancy while still married led to Lauren Silverman’s divorce from her first husband. She welcomed her son, Eric, with Simon Cowell in 2014. She shares a 20-year-old son with her ex-husband.
Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman have been engaged since 2021. She legally changed her last name to “Cowell” in 2025 to put on a united family front. She recently advocated for the UK’s social media ban for children. While speaking about that on This Morning, she revealed a surprising detail about her husband: he doesn’t have a cell phone.
According to his fiance, Simon Cowell “ditched” his cell phone several years ago. “I think in terms of just reducing those distractions and the noise and that feeling — that pull that we all inevitably have when you’ve got a phone sitting next to you which is constantly just going off and there’s notifications coming in and there’s all kinds of things that are pulling you into that,” she said. She added that the no tech household rule has been “really positive” for him and the entire family.

Former American Idol Judge Banned Son From Social Media
The UK just passed a law banning social media for children under 16. It goes into effect in 2027 and includes popular apps such as YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and more. Lauren Silverman revealed that their son, 12, was already banned from social media anyway.
“We’ve been very strict with him about social media. In terms of having a phone, he does have, I guess you could call it a brick phone,” she explained. “It’s a smartphone in the sense that it’s like an Apple phone, but there’s nothing on it. It’s completely shut down. So, he can text and WhatsApp, but that’s it,” the mom of two shared.
She revealed that her son has a “long way to go” before he can use social media, especially with the new ban. Lauren Silverman said Simon Cowell was “ahead of the curve” in banning technology from their home. Share your thoughts in the comments. Is 12 too young for social media?
