Actor Paul Avery, known for his work on All My Children, recently lost his life. Adding to the tragedy, the actor died alongside his wife in a fire inside their home. The couple’s daughter had also shared information about what happened on social media.

The Couple, Paul & Sheila, Avery Reportedly Died In A House Fire In New Jersey

Paul is an actor known for playing Hughie on All My Children throughout the 1980s. His character worked at a dive bar called Foxy’s on the soap.

In addition, Paul is known for appearing in the 1987 Superman movie, playing a TV cameraman. He also made appearances on Tales from the Darkside, Three’s Company, and Soap.

According to WFMZ, Paul and his wife Sheila were killed in a house fire Tuesday morning. Just before 1 AM, the New Jersey State Police got a call concerning the couple’s home on Mohican Road in Warren County, New Jersey.

The building was already engulfed in flames by the time authorities reached the place. Tragically, neither Paul nor Sheila could be saved.

Speaking with the outlet, Joe Phalon shared, “I got a call saying what happened, and I just couldn’t believe it.” Phalon reportedly works for a paper that Paul had founded, the Ridge View Echo. He shared that while Paul might be gone, his legacy will live on.

Paul Had Many Accomplishments In His Life, Including Starting His Own Newspaper

Phalon also revealed some of the various accomplishments Paul had made throughout his life. As he later shared, I always like to call Paul the most interesting man in the world, because he was when you consider everything he’s done in his life. Acting, skydiving, Vietnam veteran, started a newspaper.”

In a share, the couple’s daughter, Kyle Avery, wrote, “I’m devastated to share that our parents, Paul and Sheila Garry Avery, passed away early this morning. We loved them so much, and they loved us so much, and nobody ever had to wonder if that was so. We’re grateful to the Blairstown Fire Department for their efforts. Service plans to follow.”

Taking to the comments, various figures shared their condolences over the tragic news. A few came from people who knew the couple personally. Some comments included:

    • “Oh gosh I’m so sorry to hear this. No words can do this kind of a loss justice. I’m so sorry and thinking of you.”
    • “I am so very for your loss. Sending lots of prayers to you and your family during this time.”
    • “I’m so sorry, Kyle. I have the fondest memories of your father and the bookstore he had on Main St. He was a gentleman, always kind, and that book store was a refuge and a place of great discovery for me! I’ll be praying for you and your family. Much love to you all.”
