Fans believe that a rerecording of Taylor Swift’s self-titled debut album might finally be on the way — just in time for the record’s milestone 20th anniversary.

After a slew of high-profile appearances and merch drops, several Swifties have theorized that the pop star might be planning to drop the rerecorded version of her first-ever album.

Swift, 36, originally released her self-titled LP in October, 2006 through Big Machine Records. After recording five more albums with the label, the pop star left. Once Big Machine sold the masters to a third party, Swift claimed she was not presented with the opportunity to buy back her catalog. Instead, she planned to rerecord each album.

Swift went on to rerelease Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989, with new versions of Taylor Swift and Reputation remaining in the vault. In May 2026, Swift was finally able to purchase her discography before putting out the latest two rereleases. (No formal announcements have been made about release dates.)

Related: Which Taylor Swift Album Will Be Rerecorded Next? Wild Fan Theories

Are you ready for it? Taylor Swift just released Red (Taylor’s Version), but fans are already thinking about which one of her early albums she’ll rerecord next. The “State of Grace” singer embarked on a mission to rerecord her first six records in 2019 after losing control of her masters in a highly publicized battle […]

Keep scrolling to unpack Swiftie theories that the pop star might have a change in plans:

    The Anniversary

Swift’s debut album came out on October 26, 2006, which will celebrate its landmark 20th anniversary later this year in October 2026. It’s not known how or if Swift will mark the occasion.

    A Country Girl Again

Swift’s first album famously debuted on the country charts years before she switched over to make pop music. Swift made her grand return to the down-home genre with “I Knew It, I Knew You” in June 2026 for the Toy Story 5 soundtrack.

“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once,” Swift wrote via Instagram. “And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”

She continued, “My pal @jackantonoff [and I] wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods.”

“I Knew It, I Knew You” was specifically written about cowgirl figurine Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack.)

Was That a Stylish Easter Egg?

Swift had a busy few weeks in early June 2026, attending the Toy Story 5 premiere, an NBA Finals game and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in three successive days. As Swift walked the carpet at the movie premiere, she fittingly went country-chic in an off-the-shoulder Erdem corset minidress. For the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Swift opted for a custom Givenchy by Sarah Burton gown that was covered in embroidered flowers.

Eagle-eyed fans on social media quickly pointed out that flowers and butterflies made up the iconography associated with the debut record.

Not to mention, Swift wore a mint-colored frock to the iHeart Music Awards in March 2026. The Taylor Swift artwork also notably features a teal background.

    A Merch Drop

June 2026 also brought a new line of merchandise, including a “Debut Album Skirt.” In a photoshoot pic shared via Swift’s website, a model wore a yellow smocked skirt with delicate rose illustrations while lying on grass next to rows of tulips.

Swifties on X realized that the Grammy winner wore a coordinating outfit while striking a similar pose in her “I Knew It, I Knew You” announcement.

“I’m calling it, DebutTV announced on 8/7 and released on 10/23 the day before the 20th anniversary of DebutTV,” one fan tweeted. “She’s holding 8 flowers with 7 around her in the Debut outfit. The same flowers that Taylor used in the ‘I knew it, I knew you’ pics.”

Other fans, meanwhile, noticed that Swift wore a yellow dress with roses in her “Tim McGraw” single cover art. Plus, Swift sings that she “almost didn’t notice all the roses” from her boyfriend in “Our Song.” (Both “Tim McGraw” and “Our Song” are fan-favorite tracks from Debut.)

Has Taylor Swift Rerecorded Her Debut Album?

Swift confirmed in May 2025 that she did completely reimagine her debut album, but didn’t have plans for a release schedule on the heels of purchasing her masters.

“I’ve completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how that sounds now,” Swift wrote in a lengthy letter shared via her website, also noting she only got through “a quarter” of Reputation (Taylor’s Version). “Those two albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about.”

She continued, “If it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I could have. It will just be a celebration now.”
