West Indies Women edged past Scotland Women by seven runs in a nail-biting Match 12 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Headingley. After being asked to bat first, the Caribbean side recovered from a steady start thanks to a stunning late assault from Stafanie Taylor before their bowlers held their nerve to defend 153 and secure a hard-fought victory.

Stafanie Taylor’s explosive finish shifts the momentum

Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce won the toss and chose to field, hoping to restrict the West Indies on a surface that offered assistance early on. The decision appeared justified as openers Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews struggled to accelerate, scoring 13 and 14 respectively. However, Shemaine Campbelle steadied the innings with a composed 36 off 26 deliveries, finding the boundary four times and keeping the scoreboard moving.

The defining moment of the innings came from veteran all-rounder Taylor, who produced a breathtaking knock of 47 runs from just 19 balls. Mixing elegance with power, she smashed four boundaries and three sixes to transform the innings in the closing overs. Jahzara Claxton also chipped in with a brisk 16 off nine balls, helping West Indies Women finish on a challenging 153/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Scotland, Katherine Fraser emerged as the most successful bowler with figures of 2/34 from four overs. Rachel Slater, Bryce and Kirstie Gordon claimed a wicket apiece, while Gabriella Fontenla and Chloe Abel kept things tidy during their spells.

Scotland fall just short despite Darcey Carter’s fighting fifty

Chasing 154, Scotland Women suffered an early setback when captain Bryce was dismissed for a duck. Sarah Bryce and Megan McColl also departed cheaply, leaving the chase under pressure. Darcey Carter responded with a determined innings, anchoring the batting effort with 59 runs off 62 deliveries that included eight boundaries.

Katherine Fraser provided valuable momentum with a quickfire 20 from only 11 balls, while Ailsa Lister added 33 off 25 balls and briefly reignited Scotland’s hopes with an aggressive cameo featuring four fours and a six. Despite their efforts, regular wickets prevented Scotland from building the partnerships required to complete the chase.

West Indies’ bowling attack shared the workload effectively. Matthews and Aaliyah Alleyne both claimed three wickets, with Alleyne producing an outstanding spell of 3/11 from just two overs. Afy Fletcher contributed two wickets while maintaining tight control, and Joseph chipped in with one scalp. Scotland were eventually bowled out for 146 on the final ball of the innings, handing West Indies Women a narrow but deserved seven-run victory. Taylor’s explosive batting display proved to be the difference between the two sides and earned her the Player of the Match award.
