Now that Bangladesh have transitioned to an elected government and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is led by its new president, former captain Tamim Iqbal, whispers of a bilateral restart have intensified. Iqbal has publicly expressed a keen interest in bringing India back to the diplomatic crease.
However, Saikia firmly established that the BCCI will not make independent political assessments. The board’s stance remains explicitly tethered to New Delhi’s foreign policy.
“The BCCI is a cricketing controlling board, and we have nothing to do with what is going on politically in other countries, whatever regulations and policies the central government frames, we follow them, just like any other sports federation,” Saikia stated to PTI. He emphasized that the board operates strictly within the boundaries set by the central government.
Saikia further clarified that the internal governance structure of a neighbouring nation does not dictate the BCCI’s scheduling decisions. Whether a government is democratically elected or otherwise is secondary to official state clearance.
