Chloe Bailey is getting real about her music journey over the past few years, reflecting on her two studio albums, “In Pieces” and “Trouble in Paradise.” Most recently, she released a mixtape with Timbaland titled “Resurrection.” In a new interview, the Chloe x Halle singer says her work in other professional ventures, such as acting, has helped make her a better musician.
Speaking with Extra, Chloe opened up about her new film, “Strung,” premiering on Peacock, and said that taking on new roles in front of the camera has made her a better artist and “storyteller.”
“You have to be raw and vulnerable, and you have to let your guard down. And with music, it’s all about performing, putting on a show. And that’s what I’ve always been used to. So right now my next goal is to [tell a story] better. But I feel like acting is getting me there more and more because you tell the story of someone else that has nothing to do with you. And there’s beauty in the rawness,” she said.
Chloe Bailey Reflects On Releasing A Mixtape With Timbaland On Juneteenth
Over the years, Bailey has released music alongside her sister, Halle Bailey, and, of course, put out two solo albums under Beyoncé‘s Parkwood label. Her latest body of work, “Resurrection,” is a 13-track mixtape packed with alternative R&B hits.
About the project, released on Juneteenth, Chloe said it was meant to be a celebratory moment for her and her fans.
“I created this mixtape with Timberland… and we’re releasing it on Juneteenth! It’s a celebration of the beauty within our community and our power that we hold within our skin, but also he has been such a prominent figure within the music industry,” she said. “And I’ve been so inspired by him and Missy Elliott. Like I’ve never been shy of crediting them for the producer that I am.”
Chloe Bailey Created ‘Resurrection’ In A Very Short Amount Of Time

Elsewhere in the interview, Chloe reflected on how she and Timbaland managed to complete the project in only two months.
“He’s amazing. His ear is impeccable. And what I also learned from him is it’s okay to strip things down sometimes,” she said. “Sometimes, just the demo vocal of me writing the song I’d send back, he’d fall in love with that. And there were a couple times where I would recut the vocals and add a bunch of layers and he’s like, ‘No, no, no, no. Go back to the original. That’s where the heartbeat was’… and then some records he’ll let me like have my harmonies in full glory. But it was really nice learning to grab different textures in that way.”
Chloe Has More Coming Soon

“Resurrection” is just the beginning of what’s in store for Chloe. In 2024, she spoke with PEOPLE about her upcoming projects and told fans to sit tight for “exciting things coming up.”
“I’ve been more inspired than ever,” she said, teasing that she’s been in her “producer bag pretty deep.”
The singer-songwriter also said that she’s learning to relax a bit more after taking life so seriously following her rise to fame.
“I feel like the younger part of my years, I took life so seriously, and now I’m at a time when I really want to focus on my happiness while I work really hard towards my goals,” she said.
Chloe Talks Supporting Sister Halle

While fans are still waiting for another album with her sister, Halle, Chloe said that she will always be in her corner. Most recently, she was spotted at the premiere of Halle’s feature film, “You, Me, & Tuscany,” and said that she couldn’t be prouder of her younger sister and all of her success.
“Sis and I, we started doing everything together, so we’re each other’s safety blanket,” Chloe said, per The Blast. “I was so happy to be there at the screening in L.A. to support her for her incredible rom-com.”
According to Chloe, she has just as much fun cheering her sister on as she does working with her on new projects.
“… it just makes when we come together that much more special,” she said.
