Joe Manganiello hosted Deal or No Deal Island for two seasons until it was canceled in 2025. But what fans didn’t know was that he was secretly battling for his life amid a health crisis. The actor broke his silence and revealed that he’s written a book detailing his health issues. “It was the most brutally difficult time of my life, one I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but also my greatest adventure,” he told PEOPLE magazine in a statement.
He continued, “I hope that what I went through on this journey can give readers hope that answers and healing may lie for them on the other side of whatever they are fighting through. The process of writing this book gave me the gift of perspective that helped me to see that my suffering was a cocoon from which I would emerge forever changed.”
The details of his health crisis won’t be completely revealed until the book is released on October 13. However, the book’s synopsis gives a glimpse at what he’s been through. He battled multiple autoimmune diseases for years that affected his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system.
The long battle for answers involved “chronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, existential crisis and a prolonged fight for survival that left doctors with few answers and no clear explanation,” the synopsis said.
It took him on a journey across the world and into his past to find relief.
He Looked Elsewhere When Traditional Medicine Failed
Joe Manganiello’s upcoming book is called Bloodlines and delves into how his ancestry led to his health struggles. The actor went outside of traditional medicine for answers, seeking help from “shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long-lost family records and the rebirth of his own spirituality.”
