The Buffalo Sabres are trading defenseman Bowen Byram of Cranbrook, British Columbia to the Chicago Blackhawks according to Rogers Sportsnet on Tuesday. In addition to Byram, the Blackhawks are receiving left winger Jordan Greenway. The Sabres are receiving defenseman Louis Crevier of Quebec City, Quebec, a first round pick (fourth overall) in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft and a second round pick (45th overall) in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
Byram is joining his second NHL franchise, after four seasons with the Colorado Avalanche (2020 to 2024) and three seasons with the Buffalo Sabres (2024 to 2026). He won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022.
In 2025-26, Byram had 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points with the Sabres. He was a +15 with 48 penalty minutes, seven power-play points, one shorthanded point, five game-winning goals, 109 shots on goal, 93 blocked shots, 50 hits, 22 takeaways and 84 giveaways.
Byram’s shorthanded point was a shorthanded assist in an 8-7 Sabres win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 8. Byram set up Alex Tuch at 11:07 of the second period. At the time, the Sabres went up 4-1.
Crevier is joining his second NHL franchise, after three seasons with the Blackhawks. In 2025-26, he had seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points in 78 games. Crevier was a -2 with 63 penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 114 shots on goal, 95 blocked shots, 124 hits, 15 takeaways, and 64 giveaways.
Crevier’s game-winning goal was a shorthanded goal on December 10, 2025 in a 3-0 Blackhawks win over the New York Rangers. Crevier opened the scoring.
