American Idol judge Lionel Richie has been performing live for decades, and he is still going strong. For the past several years, fans have flocked to his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour, which began in 2023. Unfortunately, he had to cancel midway due to an unexpected illness, but will he be able to resume the rest of his scheduled shows? Keep reading for more details.
Lionel Richie Is Struggling
Fans seem to love Lionel Richie as a judge on American Idol. He complements his fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood, and comes with decades of wisdom. Moreover, he has a lot of knowledge to impart to the contestants who just want to make it to Hollywood. Not so much Hollywood, but see how they can excel in music. Unfortunately, the seventy-seven-year-old has been faced with some health issues, undergoing four surgeries in four years on his throat. The multi-Grammy award winner has continued on and is currently touring.
Sadly, things came to a screeching halt on Wednesday, June 24th, when the singer began to feel dizzy. This was about 55 minutes in, so he held on for quite some time. He told the audience in St. Paul, Minnesota, what was going on as he was singing “Dancing on the Ceiling.” However, Lionel did this while sitting down. As he performed “Three Times a Lady,” he went on to take an unplanned intermission, and eventually, the show was over. Lionel Richie’s saxophonist, Dino Soldo, came to share this:
“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
While waiting for Lionel to decide what he would be doing next, his band had lingered on the stage for around 15 minutes. Yet, they knew he could not continue on, and the dizziness was of great concern. As of now, there are no updates, and Lionel’s social media is filled with BTS tour snaps and videos.
A Firsthand Account
Someone who was allegedly at the Lionel Richie concert shared that they actually waited for 45 minutes before being told anything:
- I was at this concert…..we sat around for about 45 minutes before we were told anything. Then they came out and cancelled the rest of the concert.

That is vastly different from the 15-minute window that has been tossed around, which seems fair to determine if Lionel could return. Others wanted to know why he was still touring:
- This man is almost 80 yrs old, why is he still trying to do this? Can’t be for money because he is wealthy. It’s a like a boxer, don’t know when to step down and go on and do other things in life.
- Geez, Rod Stewart last week and Lionel this week. They can’t possibly need money.
Do you think the rest of the tour will be canceled, and should Lionel Richie just rest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
