Algeria and Austria have named their teams for their World Cup 2026 meeting in Kansas on matchday three.
The North Africans have never forgotten the ‘Disgrace of Gijon’ at the 1982 World Cup, when Austria and a West Germany side who were winning 1-0 played out more than an hour with little intent to score as both teams qualified at the expense of Algeria.
This time around, a draw for both teams would see them through to the round of 32.
“It is certainly an advantage that we already know exactly which result we need,” acknowledged Austria coach Ralf Rangnick.
