West Indies produced a ruthless all-round performance to register a massive innings-and-217-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. After conceding a first-innings total of 308, the hosts piled up a mammoth 629/9 before bowling Sri Lanka out for just 101 in their second innings to seal one of their most comprehensive Test victories. Amir Jangoo starred with a magnificent double century, while Roston Chase narrowly missed out on a double hundred before the West Indies bowlers wrapped up the contest with ease.

Amir Jangoo, Roston Chase put West Indies firmly in control

Sri Lanka made a promising start to the Test by posting 308 in their first innings, largely thanks to captain Dhananjaya de Silva‘s superb 120 and Dinesh Chandimal‘s gritty 54. However, the visitors failed to build on that foundation as the West Indies bowlers kept the scoring in check. Justin Greaves was the pick of the attack, claiming 3/39 to ensure Sri Lanka never gained complete control despite De Silva’s resistance.

The momentum shifted dramatically once the West Indies began their reply. Opener Jangoo played the innings of his career, crafting a sensational 233 that laid the platform for a towering total. Displaying patience and authority, Jangoo punished loose deliveries while rotating the strike efficiently, leaving Sri Lanka’s bowlers searching for answers.

At the other end, captain Chase provided ideal support with a marathon knock of 194. Chase missed out on a deserved double century but had already inflicted irreparable damage by the time he was dismissed. The duo’s mammoth partnership completely deflated the Sri Lankan attack and ensured the hosts remained in complete command throughout the innings.

Sri Lanka’s lone bright spot with the ball came through Milan Priyanath Rathnayake, who finished with figures of 5/124. Despite his five-wicket haul, the visitors struggled to contain the relentless West Indies batting lineup as the hosts declared on a daunting 629/9.

Kemar Roach leads bowling charge as Sri Lanka collapse

Trailing by 321 runs, Sri Lanka needed a resilient batting display to avoid an innings defeat. Instead, their batting lineup crumbled spectacularly under relentless pressure from the West Indies pace attack.

Only Chandimal offered any meaningful resistance with a fighting 43, while the remaining batters failed to reach significant scores. Kemar Roach rolled back the years with a clinical spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 4/51 to dismantle the middle and lower order. The experienced fast bowler found consistent movement and extracted enough bounce to trouble every batter who came to the crease. Sri Lanka were eventually bundled out for just 101, handing West Indies a crushing innings victory and a 1-0 lead in the series.
