Dylan Dreyer is known for her work on Today, but over the years, she has also worked to help promote celiac disease awareness. As many fans know, this is a story that connects to her family. During a recent conversation, she also shared a health update about someone close to her.
Today Star Dylan Dreyer’s Eldest Son, Calvin, Was Diagnosed With Celiac Disease Back In 2023
Dreyer started working with Today in 2012, initially serving as a Weekend Today weather anchor during her first broadcast. Over the years, she has also become known for being a regular co-host during the program’s third hour.
In her personal life, Dreyer and her ex-husband, Brian Fichera, share three sons together. These are Calvin Bradley, born in 2016, Oliver George, born in 2020, and Russell “Rusty” James, who was born in 2021.
Over the years, Dreyer has become an advocate for celiac disease awareness after Calvin was diagnosed with the condition in 2023. This autoimmune disease causes a person’s immune system to react to gluten in a way that can damage the small intestine, which impacts what they can eat.
Dreyer’s son’s own diagnosis also helped bring about her “Cooking With Cal” segment on Today. Through this, she and her son teach viewers about cooking gluten-free meals.
Recently, Dreyer sat down for an interview with Parents. At the time, she opened up about her son, giving fans an update. As she explained, “Now that Calvin’s Celiac is managed, he’s totally fine, but it’s annoying.”
Dreyer Also Shared That Calvin’s Brothers Have Shown Their Support
Dreyer continued to explain that making sure Calvin has access to safe food isn’t always easy. As she shared, “It’s annoying when we travel or when he goes to birthday parties or plays at somebody else’s house. We were at a pool club over the weekend, and there was nothing he could eat besides a bag of chips, so that’s frustrating.”
For her own home, however, Dreyer shared that she completely eliminated gluten from her home, making it a place where Calvin doesn’t have to worry about food safety. She also expressed that Calvin’s brothers are on board, even opting for gluten-free options when out.
That said, Dreyer noted, “When we’re not in the house, they can get whatever they want.” However, she expressed, “But when we’re home, we’re all one team.”
As previously reported, Dreyer had mentioned how much she enjoys spending time in the U.K. At the time, she expressed that it was much easier to find appropriate foods for Calvin there than back in the States.
