After a sequel that boded slightly better than its predecessor, Enola Holmes 3 brings audiences back to their beloved sister. Those of us unprepared for a third film after the sequel might have been pleasantly surprised with the announcement and production of the latest instalment in the franchise. But what the greatest enquiry is, is whether or not there was any need for another film. Old friends work together to discover the truth behind this next mystery for the Holmes to discover and the outcome might be predictable for some.

In her latest adventure, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) finds herself in a different predicament than what viewers have seen her in before. Marriage. Since the beginning, she has found herself twisted within the life of Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), clearly finally understanding the love they have for one another. Amidst a Tewkesbury family decision, Enola finds herself in Malta, heading towards the altar. That is until the game is afoot, sending her and her friends on a chase through time and island landscape.

Bringing Holmes and Doctor Watson (Himesh Patel) back together, audiences rejoice in another female lead hunt. That is the power of the Enola Holmes franchise for the young and female audience. Seeing our protagonist uncover the plot to kidnap her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and  Tewkesbury family history with little help from the men around her, gives us hope for a bright future. Familiar faces grace her path, bringing back Enola’s mother (Helena Bonham Carter) and foes faced before return for more. Perhaps following too specific of formats, the film still manages to grab ahold of you and makes you want to find out the truth.

There is nothing more a film lover could wish for than to watch great chases and adventure on the big screen. This is by fault the issue surrounding Netflix releases. We all, or at least those of us who have watched Enola Holmes in her previous endeavours, have witnessed such grandiose. But all of us having it either been at home on the television or on our handheld devices. Something hit different when her third journey began and I could not help but find myself wishing for a bigger screen to witness it all on.

That being said, however, it is really within the passion behind Brown’s portrayal where the infamous Sherlock Holmes’ sister comes to life. As she has come to develop herself as the character, three movies in and she has the knack. Brown’s tenacity pulls you in even further into the story. As Enola, the viewer is fully brought into her mind. We see what she thinks and we think definitely not what she sees. What continues to be so compelling for these mystery films is that the unknown remains unknown. Brown might talk the audience through her thinking process, but unless you pay the most closest of attentions, the only one who will know where they are heading is Enola herself.

Combine Brown’s vibrant personality as Enola with the immediate emerge into the plot, and Enola Holmes 3 has no reason not to root you into the film. While yes it does have that typical Netflix editing and special effects that we all wish so much more from, it does provide the adventure that the simple audience will enjoy. Reminding us that you do not need so much to simply have fun in a film. This murder mystery thriller brings us back to the good and simple idea of the unknown. Whether or not you can follow along as the clues unfold, or if you ride it out till the end before putting two and two together, Enola Holmes 3 keeps you wondering.

Just six years after Enola is introduced to the world, and four after her second adventure, Netflix and director Philip Barantini bring us back into her mystery and detective work. Releasing on the platform Wednesday July 1, 2026, find yourself a seat and get ready to watch our female hero uncover the latest hidden secrets that are laid out in front of her, and hopefully save the victims created along the way.
