Paul Dano (The Batman, There Will Be Blood) is officially joining Paramount’s upcoming remake of the supernatural thriller Possession. He’s set to star opposite Callum Turner (Eternity, Rose of Nevada) and Margaret Qualley (The Substance), according to Deadline.
The remake is being helmed by writer-director Parker Finn, who was behind the horror franchise Smile. Finn is also producing alongside Jonathan Fass for Bad Feeling, along with Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Andrew Childs, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is serving as executive producer.
Possession will be a reimagining of Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 cult horror classic, which follows a married couple in Cold War-era West Berlin whose relationship spirals and leads to a series of disturbing, supernatural events.
Along with other information about the remake, character details are being kept under tight wraps. However, Turner will presumably take on the role originated by Sam Neill, with Qualley taking on Isabelle Adjani’s part. It’s unknown what role Dano will have in the project.
Dano most recently starred opposite Alicia Vikander and Tom Sturridge in Olivier Assayas’ political thriller The Wizard of the Kremlin. His upcoming projects include A24’s The Chaperones, Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller Bunker, and Ramin Bahrani’s romantic thriller Vegas: A Love Story.
