ABP Star Bear Brown Begs For Help Honoring Late Brother’s Legacy
The police in Washington received a call on May 27 that a person in the shallow waters of the Okanogan River had drifted away with the current. After three days of searching, Matt Brown’s body was discovered by a search team that included his brother, Noah.
Matt Brown starred on Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People reality show for several years, but was estranged from his family at the time of his death. His family later confirmed reports that he took his own life. Bear Brown initially shared plans to pay for his brother’s funeral himself. However, he had some unexpected medical expenses with his children. He turned to fans to raise the funds to honor’s his late brother’s legacy.
According to Bear Brown, his brother wanted to be cremated, but the family doesn’t have the money to pay for it. “Some of my friends and everybody here on TikTok was telling me that I didn’t have to carry the burden by myself. If y’all guys wanna contribute, I have the link in my bio, but please don’t push yourself,” the Discovery Channel star shared in a video.
Bear Brown made it clear that the money went directly to the funeral home and not to the Brown family. “It goes directly to the funeral home and as soon as the goal is met, the link is cut off automatically. It’s all handled by the funeral home itself.” The fundraiser at Empathy Funding has already reached its goal of $3095.00.

Fans Blast Him, He Hits Back With Hard Truth
Bear Brown said that he was encouraged by his social media followers to create the fundraiser. However, many of the comments on his video with the link received major backlash. Check out some of the comments:
- “Saw that coming a mile away. This family is sad”
- “Ask the discovery channel they made a fortune off the family”
- “When did it become normal to ask strangers to cover family responsibilities?”
- “Professional pan handlers!”
- “but Noah said on his channel that he was going to pay for it himself?”
- “There’s 6 adult siblings + their Mother, and they are seeking go-fund?”
- “I’m pretty sure if all the siblings and the mother ALL pitch in equally would cover it. No need to ask the public for help, not their responsibility, it’s the family.”
One commentator asked where the “millions” the family made on Alaskan Bush People went. Bear Brown responded to the comment and said that they didn’t make that much.

A lot of people disagreed with the Brown family asking fans to pay for the funeral costs. However, there were enough donations to quickly meet the goal. Bear Brown said in the video that he hopes to have the funeral on or around July 3.
According to Matt Brown’s obituary, the funeral will be private. Finally, the family requests donations in Matt’s name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in lieu of flowers. Share your thoughts on Bear Brown asking fans to cover the funeral costs in the comments.
