England’s World Cup last-16 match against Mexico is expected to be brought forward, with FIFA understood to be planning a new kick-off time of 19:00 BST on Sunday.
The tie at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City had originally been scheduled to begin at 01:00 BST on Monday, which corresponds to 18:00 local time on Sunday.
However, the governing body is now set to move the fixture earlier, although an official confirmation has yet to be announced.
Weather concerns may have prompted change
While FIFA has not provided a formal explanation, forecasts for Mexico City suggest thunderstorms and heavy rainfall could affect the area around the original kick-off time.
The prospect of severe weather has led to speculation that the schedule adjustment is being made to avoid disruption to the match.
Mexico City’s high altitude and variable weather conditions have already been a talking point throughout the tournament, with several teams having to adapt their preparations.
FIFA retains power to alter fixtures
Under World Cup 2026 regulations, FIFA has the authority to amend the schedule when necessary.
