Hilary Duff is setting the record straight after a fan interaction during her latest concert sparked a heated debate online. The former Disney Channel star found herself at the center of a viral moment this week when an excited fan unexpectedly picked her up and spun her around while onstage during a stop on her “Lucky Me Tour.” While some viewers expressed concern about boundaries and performer safety, Hilary Duff is making it clear that she wasn’t bothered by the interaction.

The moment unfolded during Duff’s performance of “With Love” in Dallas, Texas, where she has been inviting fans onstage to participate in a playful dance segment that has become a staple of the tour.

The tradition began after social media users jokingly poked fun at Duff’s signature hair-flip choreography. Rather than ignore the comments, the actress embraced the joke and turned it into a recurring fan moment during her concerts.

During Tuesday’s show, one fan arrived dressed as Wendy the Good Witch, a nod to Duff’s role in the 1998 film “Casper Meets Wendy.” After joining the singer onstage, the fan surprised both Duff and the crowd by lifting her off the ground and spinning her in a circle before setting her back down.

Although Duff appeared briefly shocked, she quickly laughed off the moment and continued performing as security personnel moved closer in case assistance was needed.

The Fan Later Issued A Public Apology

Following the concert, the fan, identified as Karson, shared a TikTok video addressing the now-viral encounter. In the post, Karson apologized for the unexpected embrace and admitted the excitement of meeting Duff may have gotten the best of them.

“I didn’t mean to pose a safety risk,” Karson said, before revealing they had essentially “blacked out” during what they described as an “amazing experience” they had waited “their whole life” to experience.

Karson also apologized for causing concern among Duff’s security team.

Fortunately for Karson, Duff herself quickly stepped into the conversation. The actress commented directly on the TikTok video, making it clear there were no hard feelings about the incident. “I loved my big swing around hug! Don’t think twice!” Duff wrote.

Her response immediately eased concerns from some fans, though it didn’t stop the internet from debating whether the interaction crossed a line.

The viral fan interaction comes as Duff continues to support her latest album, “Luck… or Something,” on her nationwide “Lucky Me Tour.” While the tour has generated plenty of positive buzz, it has also attracted criticism from some social media users, including comments about the singer’s concert wardrobe.

After one critic questioned Duff’s stage outfits by writing, “Hilary Duff obviously didn’t spend any money on her wardrobe. Wearing sweatpants?”, a fan quickly stepped in to defend the pop star. Sharing a compilation of Duff’s various concert looks on Instagram, the supporter responded, “Actually she’s a baddie that did 5 quick outfit changes during her performance.”

The video showcased several of Duff’s costume changes throughout the show, including a slip dress layered over jeans, a fringe crop top ensemble, a satin white dress, and a sparkling sequin halter look. The post soon caught Duff’s attention, with the singer appearing to show her appreciation by liking the fan’s defense.

Duff’s latest viral moment comes as she continues her highly anticipated return to the stage following the release of her February 2026 album, Luck… or Something. The “Lucky Me Tour” officially kicked off on June 22 in West Palm Beach, Florida, following her intimate “Small Rooms, Big Nerves” run, where fans were treated to a mix of nostalgic favorites like “Why Not” and “Come Clean” alongside songs from her newest project.

Ahead of the tour, Duff opened up about her excitement to reconnect with fans in a bigger setting after easing back into live performances through smaller venues. “There is something so sweet about getting to see everyone’s face, and being so intimate and close with everyone, and it was really a great way for me to start and build confidence, but I just feel like I know what I’m doing and kind of got my reps in,” she told PEOPLE in April.

The larger-scale tour marks Duff’s biggest concert venture in years and is currently scheduled to continue through early 2027, with the final stop slated for February 15 in Zapopan, Mexico.
