Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the fourth round of Wimbledon. In order to reach the round of 16 in the gentlemen’s singles draw of the third grand slam event of the season, Auger-Aliassime, the third seed, defeated American Michael Zheng 7-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In Auger-Aliassime’s straight sets win over the two-time NCAA tennis champion, there were three statistics that stood out over all of the rest. Auger-Aliassime had 10 aces compared to four for Zheng. Auger-Aliassime also had a winning percentage of 91% on his first serve, compared to 56% for Zheng. Auger-Aliassime also broke Zheng five times in 10 opportunities.
Next up for Auger-Aliassime is the 22nd seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain. Auger-Aliassime has won three of four meetings all-time in the head-to-head matches. Auger-Aliassime won 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 in the second round of the 2022 Australian Open, won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the second round of the 2022 Italian Open, and won 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals of Doha in 2023. Davidovich Fokina’s lone win came in their last meeting head-t0-head. That was in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open, which Davidovich Fokina won, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
Davidovich-Fokina is one of five players to beat Auger-Aliassime when down two sets to love. The other four are Russians Aslan Karatsev (2021 Australian Open), and Daniil Medvedev (2022 Australian Open), Thonasi Kokkinakis of Australia (2024 Wimbledon) and Matteo Arnaldi of Italy (2025 French Open). Auger-Aliassime’s Olympic bronze medal came in mixed doubles alongside Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa, Ontario at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
