60 Minutes has seen a number of prominent figures leave the news program over the past few months. However, news has come out that the program is looking to find new faces to join the show. Recently, it’s been shared that two prominent journalists are being considered.
Both Jim Axelrod & Seth Doane Are Already Known For Their Work With CBS News
Over the past few months, viewers have seen a number of figures leave 60 Minutes. These include correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega, and Scott Pelley, who were fired from the program, among others. In addition, some figures, such as Anderson Cooper, have also since resigned from the show themselves.
This comes out as viewers have seen a massive overhaul at CBS News since the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief back in October. This had followed Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of The Free Press, which Weiss had founded.
Since then, news has come out that the program is interested in two figures to join the program. According to The LA Times, CBS News correspondent Seth Doane and chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod are two of the top contenders to join 60 Minutes as correspondents.
Doane is a foreign correspondent based in Italy. His reports are already featured on CBS’ Sunday News and CBS Evening News.
In addition to this. Doane also already has a few connections to 60 Minutes. He has served as a correspondent on 60 in 6, the show’s streaming program. He also serves as a host of the podcast, 60 Minutes: A Second Look.
A Few Other Figures Are Expected To Have Roles In 60 Minutes‘ Upcoming Season
On his end, Axelrod has appeared on various CBS News programs. He is known for his work reporting from Iran, including being the first TV reporter to broadcast live from the Saddam International Airport, later the Baghdad International Airport, after its American takeover following the Iraq War.
The outlet also claimed that British journalist Sir Trevor Phillips is expected to have a role on the program. He recently joined CBS News as a senior global affairs correspondent. In addition to a career in politics, he also hosted Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips for Sky News.

CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil is also expected to deliver four 60 Minutes pieces per season. Chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett will also have a contributor role. Other figures under consideration for the show also reportedly include Matt Gutman, who was brought on from ABC News, foreign correspondent Holly Williams, and National Geographic Channel journalist Mariana van Zeller.
