The airport in Palm Beach County officially changed its name to President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday.

The airport, previously known as Palm Beach International Airport, was renamed by legislation signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis in March.

The name change will cost an estimated $5.5 million, which covers signage, branding, technology systems and printed materials, according to the Palm Beach County Department of Airports.

The airport reassured passengers in a statement that the change is in name only.

“While we recognize that the required name change may be received in different ways by our passengers, we’re grateful for your continued support through this transition period,” it said. “We remain committed to serving all passengers and ensuring a positive travel experience.”

The airport’s three-letter identification code will switch to DJT — the president’s initials — on Aug. 18.

However, the Federal Aviation Administration announced it has already adopted the code change and directed “pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation stakeholders” to “use DJT for flight planning and operations.”

Trump Force One, a plane privately owned by The Trump Organization, was the first aircraft to land at the newly named airport.

Eric Trump, the president’s son and the head of the organization, was on the plane.

“There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor,” he wrote on social media. “As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials ’DJT’ on my boarding pass.”

Eric Trump was joined by his brother Donald Trump Jr. and Rep. Byron Donalds, a Florida Republican running with the president’s endorsement to succeed Mr. DeSantis as governor.

The president is a legal resident of Palm Beach, Florida, with his permanent residence at the Mar-a-Lago estate.

In compliance with a state law, a four-mile section of road connecting Mar-a-Lago to the airport was renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard in January.

Rep. Lois Frankel, a Democrat whose district includes Palm Beach, expressed dissatisfaction with the name change.

“No one asked the people of Palm Beach County. This decision was made in Tallahassee, overriding the voices of the residents, businesses, and travelers who use it every day,” Ms. Frankel wrote on social media. “Donald Trump is not our KING!”

The name change occurred on the same day as the renaming of Tennessee’s Interstate 40 bridge to the President Donald J. Trump Bridge.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, as well as Rep. Tim Burchett and Sen. Marsha Blackburn, both Tennessee Republicans, were present for the dedication in the Volunteer State.

A federal appeals court recently rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to appeal a decision blocking the renaming of Washington’s Kennedy Center to “The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”
