Brook has led England impressively during the series, with both the batting unit and bowlers consistently outperforming India. Speaking after England’s emphatic victory in the fourth T20I, Brook admitted that his side is fully focused on completing a 4-0 series win while also climbing to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. The England skipper also revealed that the dressing room is well aware of what is at stake ahead of the Southampton clash. Brook also praised his team’s execution throughout the series, while acknowledging the quality that India possess despite their disappointing performances.
“To beat India 4-0 would be a pretty special series win if I’m being honest. And to go No.1 in the world would be even better. That is our main aim. We want to go out there and try and beat them convincingly again. We’ve been told if we win the next game, we go to world No.1 and that’s definitely a prize that we’re eyeing up. India are a strong side. They probably haven’t been as good in this series as they have been over the last couple of years, but we’re really happy with the way that we’ve executed our plans,” Brook said.
Brook and Phil Salt power England to series-clinching victory
England sealed the series in style with a comprehensive nine-wicket win in the fourth T20I. Chasing the target, Brook produced a sensational unbeaten 79 off just 35 deliveries, while Phil Salt anchored the innings with a fluent 59 from 42 balls. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 146-run partnership, taking England home with more than six overs to spare and underlining their dominance throughout the contest.
With the series already secured, England will now aim to finish on a high in Southampton. A victory in the fifth T20I would not only complete a commanding 4-0 series sweep over India but also propel Brook’s side to the No.1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.
