Yellowstone might have ended a few years back, but their characters still have stories to share with fans. This year alone, fans already got two spin-offs, Marshals and Dutton Ranch. Recently, Kelly Reilly, who stars in the latter series, opened up about the show’s current storyline. In particular, she weighed in on something she felt could have been included in the story.
Yellowstone‘s Kelly Reilly & Cole Hauser Reprise Their Roles As Beth & Rip For Dutton Ranch
Premiering in 2018, Yellowstone told the story of the Dutton family and their Montana cattle ranch. Wrapping up in 2024, the series has lived on through a number of spin-offs.
This includes the prequel series 1883 and 1923. This year, fans also saw two sequel series, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, with other spin-offs reportedly in development.
In Dutton Ranch, viewers saw Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser return as Beth and Rip. Meanwhile, Marshals follows Luke Grimes and Kayce Dutton.
In a recent interview, Reilly opened up about an infamous story development seen in her show’s sister series. This was the death of Kayce’s wife, Monica, played by Kelsey Asbille, who died after being diagnosed with cancer.
Weighing in on the production side of things, Reilly noted, “I think that happened before our show started in a story world. I imagine Beth and Rip had gone to Monica’s [funeral]. There has been some connection, and our story started after that.”
Both Dutton Ranch & Marshals Have Been Renewed For Second Seasons, Meaning That There Are More Stories To Tell
While the moment didn’t occur on screen in either of the sister Yellowstone spin-offs, Reilly mused, “I would absolutely imagine that there’ll be some checking in on her brother, and we just didn’t see it this year.” That said, she felt that it would have been a good idea to have dramatized this part of the story and have it play out for the viewers.
Reilly admitted, “I think it’s something that was a missed opportunity, quite honestly.” However, she acknowledged, “We’re both trying to start up these big shows, and I think we can see where there are gaps, and we see where things need to be fixed.”
In the meantime, both Dutton Ranch and Marshals have been renewed for second seasons. Thanks to this, Reilly hinted that Beth and Rip’s relationship with Kayce would get more direct focus in upcoming stories. She shared, “That’s what you get the opportunity to do in a season 2. You get to go back and go, okay, we can do this one differently. We can make this better. We can take care of that.”
