Allie Eklund is opening up about the early signs that her relationship with Steven McBee Jr. was not meant to last.
“Looking back on it, we obviously — our first couple of dates, on paper and from conversation, we were the perfect match, so it felt,” Eklund, 29, exclusively told Us Weekly on Friday, July 10, while discussing her business venture, Triple E Mercantile, a collection of goods inspired by her family’s private ranch in the Texas Hill Country, home to more than 100 animals.
“And then when I, you know, immersed myself in being with him in person and the reality of things, I just, I quickly realized after a couple months that … what he was saying and his actions were not lining up,” she continued. “So there were a couple things that started happening that I was aware of that, yeah, started to make me question and raise those concerns and flags that I dealt with privately. And you know, I leaned on my inner circle for support.”
Eklund added, “I was definitely starting to question some behavior, some things that were said. You know, how I was treated behind the scenes. Like, there were definitely some things that I was questioning. With that being said, there were also qualities that I really loved and admired about him. But I started to definitely see things that were outweighing those good qualities, for sure.”
Fans have been watching Eklund’s previous relationship with McBee Jr., 33, play out in season 3 of the hit reality TV show The McBee Dynasty: Rea American Cowboys, which premiered back in June. (The pair split this April, after a Stagecoach controversy played out publicly via social media in which McBee Jr. accused Eklund of cheating on him. Eklund denied the allegations and McBee Jr. eventually apologized for his comments before revealing he would seek therapy.)
“I sent all her stuff back, but no communication,” McBee Jr. exclusively told Us in June of where he stands with his ex following their split. “There’s some pretty intense conversations that happen throughout this season. I don’t know exactly what is going to air. Candidly, we haven’t watched the episodes, so we’re watching them in real time just as viewers are. But I know from what was filmed, there are some very, very intense conversations about engagement, married [and] long-term potential there.”
When asked if she feels she has “closure” on her previous relationship now that some time has passed, Eklund admitted that, for her, nothing else “needs to be said” between the pair.

“Closure is such an interesting word. His actions showed me exactly how he feels about me and what he said to me, you know, that was enough closure,” she told Us. “There’s nothing else that needs to be said. How you treated me and what you said to me, that was just the cherry on top. And there had been instances before this that he had been trying to work through again behind closed doors that his family was aware of. I actually broke up with him in the middle of filming privately. You know, I did it graciously. When I was asked to speak on it, I chose not to to protect him and we ended up getting back together with the support and encouragement of his family to try to work through some of those things, and the pattern continued.”
She added, “So, when I realized that it was a pattern and it wasn’t circumstantial, this was really just the icing on the cake for me. And it was it. There’s no conversation to be had, no closure left. Like, that’s closure enough for me. And when he asked me to have a conversation, a closure conversation, I denied it because there’s when your actions and your words don’t line up. There’s nothing that I can do with that. So, you know, I wish him the best from afar.”
