The Red Sox are expected to designate left-hander Danny Coulombe for assignment, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. The veteran tossed the final two innings of Saturday’s win over the Mets. As Cotillo points out, Coulombe’s contract included performance bonuses that start at 30 appearances. Tonight was his 29th outing of the season.
Coulombe was set to earn $75K after 30 games pitched. He’d get another $75K each for hitting 35, 40, and 45 appearances. The bonus would double to $150K if Coulombe reached 50 games. The veteran had additional incentives related to days on the active roster. Coulombe would make $250K after 30 days on the active roster or the injured list (as long as the injury wasn’t related to his throwing arm). He’d get an additional $250K at increments of 30 days, up to 150.
More to come…
