Matt Lauer has been living a relatively private life since his termination from Today. However, he was recently spotted alongside someone special during a holiday outing. This also comes out just months after allegations concerning Lauer were addressed in a book by a former colleague.
Matt Lauer Was Recently Seen At A Fourth Of July Party In The Hamptons
Lauer worked for Today from 1994 to 2017. Initially working on the news desk, he later became a co-anchor in 1997. He was also a frequent contributor to Dateline NBC.
In 2017, Lauer was fired by NBC. This came out after he became the subject of a complaint alleging inappropriate sexual behavior from a colleague, Brooke Nevils, concerning the 2014 Winter Olympics. Since then, Lauer has been living a quiet life, rarely making public appearances.
Lauer was recently seen with his girlfriend, Shamin Abas, for a rare outing just five months after the release of Brooke Nevils’ memoir, which detailed allegations against the Today alum. The two were photographed at Robert Kraft’s annual Fourth of July party, taking place on the holiday itself in the Hamptons.
Allegations Concerning Lauer Were Delved Into Back In February With The Release Of Brooke Nevils’ Memoir, Unspeakable Things
At the time, this was notably the first time Lauer was photographed since March. As with this recent moment, he was seen with Abas, with the two having a night out.
Speaking with People, an onlooker shared that the couple looked “very happy together and were holding hands at one point and smiling and chatting with everyone there.” Another source claimed that Lauer is “happy and doing well. He’s very happy with Shamin.” He currently lives full-time in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons.

As previously reported, back in February, Nevils published her memoir, Unspeakable Things: Silence, Shame, and the Stories We Choose to Believe. Through the book, Nevils discussed rape allegations concerning the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, as well as the aftermath that came out from her complaint filed against him at NBC, which resulted in his 2017 firing. After Nevils’ complaint, several other women came forward, making allegations against Lauer, with other media figures sharing words of support. For his part, Lauer has denied the allegations against him.
