Vertigo Releasing has announced that Hunt For The Wilderpeople will return to cinemas and digital platforms in 4K on August 7th for its 10th Anniversary.
For those unaware, the film follows Ricky, played by Julian Dennison, “a defiant young city kid, placed with a loving rural couple in foster care: the warm and eccentric Aunt Bella (Rima Te Wiata) and her quiet, cantankerous husband, Uncle Hec (Sam Neill). When tragedy strikes, Ricky finds himself on the run with Hec in the wild New Zealand bush. A relentless national manhunt led by a fanatic Child Services agent (Rachel House) ensues, and the two are forced to set aside their differences in this hilarious, heartfelt adventure.”
This “wildly funny, deeply heartfelt coming-of-age tale” was written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi, whose other notable works include Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, and What We Do in the Shadows. The film was adapted from the 1986 Barry Crump novel, Wild Pork and Watercress. Waititi’s next film, Klara and the Sun, starring Jenna Ortega and Andy Adams, releases in UK cinemas on October 23rd this year.
Alongside the cinema release, the film is also being released in 4K UHD and Blu-ray on August 17th via Visions Home Video. The release includes “a brand new Dolby Vision grade of the film, bonus features including a 10th Anniversary Q&A with Taika Waititi, Sam Neill and the rest of the cast, a double-sided poster and 4x artcards.”
Excluding co-productions, Hunt For The Wilderpeople is the highest-grossing film in New Zealand box-office history.
