The B.C. Lions have added American quarterback Logan Woodside to their exclusive negotiation list.

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent. He spent time on the practice rosters of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals in 2025, but did not see game action.

Woodside was originally selected with the 249th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He was released following training camp and briefly spent time on the Tennessee Titans’ practice roster, but was released again after three weeks.

The native of Frankfort, Ky., eventually caught on with the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) and started eight games in the spring of 2019. He completed 116-of-201 passes (57.7 percent) for 1,385 yards, seven touchdowns, and eight interceptions, going 5-3 as the starter.

Woodside translated his time in the AAF into renewed NFL interest, rejoining the Titans. He would also spend time on the active roster of the Atlanta Falcons and Bengals as part of an eight-run run at the professional level. The six-foot-one, 213-pound pivot never started an NFL game, but appeared in 13 of them, completing four of seven pass attempts for 34 yards and one interception. He also rushed 14 times for 10 yards.

Prior to his professional career, Woodside starred at the University of Toledo, where he appeared in 43 games and made 38 starts. He completed 65.1 percent of his pass attempts for the Rockets, amassing 10,514 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions, while rushing for four additional majors. He was twice selected first-team All-MAC and won the Mid-American Conference’s Most Valuable Player award as a senior in 2017.

CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.

B.C. is in need of a quarterback after franchise pivot and reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player Nathan Rourke exited Friday’s loss to Edmonton with a left shoulder injury. While the injury is not believed to be season-ending, the team will still need to dress three quarterbacks by rule in Rourke’s absence. Veteran backup Chase Brice and rookie third-stringer Kaidon Salter are the only two QBs currently under contract.

The Lions (1-4) are slated to return to action on Saturday, July 25, when they host the Toronto Argonauts (2-4).
