One of Steam’s latest events is focused on Alberta’s gaming scene.
Organized by the non-profit Interactive Arts Alberta to coincide with its ongoing GDX festival in Edmonton, the “Alberta & Beyond Sale” features all kinds of games that were made by Alberta developers. Some of the games are discounted, while others, including a handful of upcoming and free-to-play titles, are simply being promoted.
Here are some of the highlights:
Check out the full Alberta & Beyond Sale on Steam. GDX, which is North America’s largest indie games celebration, is still running in Edmonton until July 26 and features an exhibition of many local games.
Overall, this is a solid initiative to support Alberta’s game developers. While it’s most famous for BioWare thanks to the likes of Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the province’s gaming scene is home to more than 200 studios, including many indies. Unfortunately, though, these devs often don’t get much attention and government support, especially compared to the likes of Montreal and Toronto.
