Team Canada won the silver medal in women’s team gymnastics on Saturday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Canadian team was comprised of Ellie Black of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gabrielle Black of Oakville, Ontario, Lia-Monica Fontaine of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, Lia Redick of Oakville, and Alyssa Guerrier-Calixte of Kirkland, Quebec.
Canada recorded 157.3 points. Australia won the gold medal with 158.4 points, and England won the bronze medal with 154.3 points. Canada reached the podium by 3.9 points over Wales, who finished in fourth place with 153.4 points. This was the seventh career Commonwealth Games medal for Ellie Black. She has now won three gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.
In women’s pairs lawn bowling, Emma Boyd of Delta, British Columbia and Kelly McKerihen of Toronto, Ontario defeated New Zealand in a third set tie break to improve their record to two wins and one loss. However, for Canada to qualify for the semifinals they need to win their group. Right now they are behind Wales, which has a perfect record of three wins and zero losses.
In boxing, Joshua Ofori of Edmonton, Alberta won his opening round bout in the men’s 80 kilogram division. He got the victory over Sithija Sudamma of Sri Lanka after the referee stopped the decision.
Canada is now at four medals (one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals). They are tied with New Zealand and Scotland for fifth place in the medal standings. Australia leads with 23 medals, England is second with 15 medals, and Nigeria and South Africa are tied for third place with six medals each.
