Kelly Clarkson is grateful for her current relationship status as she enters a new era in her life. She is letting go of her popular talk show and is in the middle of her Las Vegas residency. That being said, she has a lot to look forward to, but she is somewhat at peace. Keep reading for more details.
Losing Her Ex-Husband
Kelly Clarkson had found love with Reba McEntire’s stepson, Brandon Blackstock. They tied the knot in 2013 and welcomed two children, Remy and River, during their marriage. Unfortunately, they split in 2022, but Kelly never slowed down. She has done music, coached on The Voice, and had a hit talk show. Even though they had divorced, Brandon passed away in August 2025 from cancer, which was tragic for Kelly and her children, trying to navigate a life without him. Kelly has never seriously been linked with anyone since her split, but now she is opening up about her current relationship status.
She was speaking out during one evening at her residency and sharing that she has chosen to stay single. Her reasoning made a lot of sense as the singer does not care for the drama. Moreover, Kelly noted that the people in the audience may have the optics of a happy relationship, but underneath, there could be too much drama:
“People are like, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I’m like, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good.’ And if you didn’t really understand what I meant by that, it’s like you see relationships and you’re like, ‘I am so glad I’m going home alone.’”
She went on to add that this drama and chaos are not happening at her home, and she likes it like that. Kelly Clarkson also noted that one of the hardest parts of being with someone seems to be keeping it fresh.

The 44-year-old has previously talked about the struggles of even trying to date. This is why she tries to avoid it, but her life is filled with so much love and fun. Therefore, if she really wants a partner, maybe it will happen organically.
A Smart Choice
After fans heard what Kelly Clarkson said about happily going home alone, they could not agree with her more. Many were doing the same thing, and they were thrilled with that choice, no apologies:
- The second someone puts their feet on my ottoman has my remote in their hand and the trash is full. It’s over.
- She’s single because she’s smart
- Yes. I was married for 19 years, now divorced and I haven’t dated in 15 years and I’m happy with my decision.
