Trent Rockets (TRT) delivered a clinical all-round performance to hand Welsh Fire (WEF) their first defeat of The Hundred Men’s 2026 at Sophia Gardens. While Ben Duckett’s unbeaten half-century anchored a comfortable run chase, it was Matt Henry who grabbed the early headlines after producing a stunning delivery to clean up England star Joe Root.
The New Zealand pacer struck inside the powerplay with a clever piece of bowling that completely outfoxed Root. The dismissal quickly made the rounds on social media as Trent Rockets seized control of the contest from the very beginning.
Matt Henry rattles Joe Root’s stumps with a superb delivery
The moment came on the 24th ball of the first innings when Root attempted to surprise Henry with a premeditated scoop shot. Henry spotted Root shuffling across his stumps early and responded brilliantly by firing a full delivery into the leg stump.
Root failed to make any contact with his attempted ramp, and the ball crashed into the stumps, leaving the former England captain stunned. Root departed for 5 off 8 balls, giving Trent Rockets the perfect start after they elected to bowl first.

Trent Rockets cruise to a convincing victory
Welsh Fire never managed to recover from their shaky start and finished with 122/7 in their allotted 100 balls. Matt Short top-scored with 36 off 26 deliveries, while Jordan Cox briefly threatened with three successive sixes before falling to a superb boundary catch by Finn Allen. Henry returned to form with an impressive opening spell, finishing with 2/16, while Mitchell Santner also played a key role by claiming 3/35.
In reply, Trent Rockets made light work of the chase. Duckett remained unbeaten on 52, registering his second successive half-century, while Allen chipped in with 33 to set up the victory. The Rockets reached 126/1 with 28 balls to spare, moving up to second place in the standings with their second win in three matches.
