Sentinels knocked LYON from the ranks of the unbeatens on the final day of Week 4 regular-season action at the League Championship Series Summer Split on Sunday.
Sentinels came away with a 2-1 win, leaving Team Liquid as the only undefeated team. Cloud9 beat FlyQuest 2-0 in the other match of the day to move into a tie for second place in the standings.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. The seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams play each other once in a best-of-three match — will set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season will advance to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams will advance to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings are eliminated.
The playoffs, which run Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, are best-of-five and double elimination. The top three teams will advance to the World Championship, played in New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from Oct. 15 through Nov. 14.
Sentinels won the first and third rounds to claim the stunning victory over LYON and improve to .500 in regular-season play. Cho “Rahel” Min-seong of South Korea led the upset with a 10-4-21 kill-death-assist ratio.
Cloud9 finished off a sweep of FlyQuest to register its third straight win since dropping its opener. South Korea’s Lee “Loki” Sang-min helmed the sweep with a 12-4-18 K-D-A.
