Ravindra Jadeja added another remarkable achievement to his already decorated Test career on Monday, reaching a milestone that only three cricketers had managed before him. The India all-rounder accomplished the feat during the third day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, further strengthening his reputation as one of the most complete players in the longest format. Jadeja had already established himself as one of India’s most dependable contributors with both bat and ball. His latest landmark now places him alongside some of the greatest all-rounders in Test history.

Ravindra Jadeja enters an exclusive club

Jadeja completed his 350th Test wicket after dismissing Keshara Nuwantha during Sri Lanka’s first innings. The batter attempted to attack an away-turning delivery through the off side, but the ball struck his knee and ballooned into the air, allowing Shubman Gill to complete a straightforward catch. The dismissal made Jadeja only the fifth Indian bowler to reach 350 Test wickets. He joined an elite list featuring Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh.

More significantly, Jadeja became only the fourth player in Test history to score at least 4,000 runs and claim 350 wickets. He joined former India captain Kapil Dev, England great Ian Botham and New Zealand legend Daniel Vettori in the exclusive club. Jadeja currently has 4,108 runs and 350 wickets in 90 Tests, making him the only member of the quartet to achieve the remarkable double before completing 100 Tests.

Jadeja joins Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori

The achievement puts Jadeja alongside three legendary all-rounders who dominated Test cricket in different eras. Kapil remains the leading run-scorer among the four, finishing his career with 5,248 runs and 434 wickets from 131 Tests for India. Botham accumulated 5,200 runs and 383 wickets in 102 Tests, while former New Zealand captain Vettori finished with 4,531 runs and 362 wickets from 113 matches.

Jadeja’s numbers are particularly impressive because of how quickly he has reached the landmark. His ability to contribute consistently with the bat while providing control and wickets as a left-arm spinner has made him an invaluable part of India’s Test setup.

Another milestone in an extraordinary career

Jadeja’s latest achievement also strengthens his position among the most successful left-arm spinners in Test history. With 350 wickets, he is currently third on the all-time list for left-arm spin bowlers, behind Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath with 433 wickets and Vettori with 362. His efficiency has also been a defining feature of his bowling career. Among left-arm spinners with at least 125 Test wickets, only South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has a better strike rate than Jadeja, with the latter currently standing at 58.1.

The milestone came after Jadeja contributed 13 runs during India’s first innings, which ended on 462. With the first Test still in progress, the 37-year-old will have further opportunities to add to his tally and strengthen his place among the finest all-rounders the format has produced.
