Rishabh Pant added another remarkable chapter to his Test career during India‘s clash against Sri Lanka in Galle, reaching a milestone that underlines his extraordinary ability to clear the boundary. The wicketkeeper-batter became the fastest player in Test history to hit 100 sixes, prompting Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to congratulate the Indian star and hail him as a fearless match-winner.

Rekha Gupta praises Rishabh Pant’s fearless approach

Pant’s achievement drew attention beyond the cricketing world, with Delhi Chief Minister Mrs Gupta taking to X to celebrate the landmark. She described the left-hander’s feat as spectacular and wished him more memorable performances for India.

Mrs Gupta highlighted Pant’s aggressive style, praising the batter for reaching the 100-six mark faster than anyone else in the history of Test cricket. Her message came after Pant produced another typically attacking innings in Galle, where he continued to showcase the fearless approach that has made him one of India’s most exciting red-ball batters.

“A century of sixes for Rishabh Pant! @RishabhPant17 has smashed his way into the record books, becoming the fastest batter to 100 sixes in Test cricket. A spectacular achievement from a fearless match-winner. Wishing him many more towering sixes, memorable knocks and match-winning moments for India! The milestone was particularly significant as Pant became the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket. He is only the fourth player overall to reach the landmark,” wrote Mrs Gupta on X.

Pant breaks Adam Gilchrist’s record in stunning fashion

Pant reached the milestone during India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. He smashed 66 runs from only 69 deliveries, striking eight fours and two sixes at a rate of more than 95. While his innings fell short of a century, his aggressive contribution helped India maintain pressure during the contest. More importantly, the two sixes took his Test tally to 100.

Pant needed just 4,918 balls to reach the landmark, comfortably surpassing the previous record held by Australian great Adam Gilchrist, who required 6,578 deliveries. Pant’s rate of one six every 49.2 balls is also the best among batters who have reached 100 Test sixes.

Only three other batters have achieved the feat: England’s Ben Stokes leads the list with 138 sixes, followed by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum with 107. Gilchrist also has exactly 100 sixes, leaving Pant level with the Australian legend.

Century drought continues despite historic feat

Pant’s latest milestone came alongside another frustrating dismissal. The Indian wicketkeeper was once again unable to convert his aggressive start into a three-figure score, falling for 66 in the second innings in Galle.

The wait for his next Test century has therefore continued. Pant’s last hundreds in the format came in the memorable Leeds Test against England last year, when he produced twin centuries.

In 2026, Pant has managed 186 runs from three innings across two Tests, with a highest score of 81 and a strike rate of 73.80. Although a century has remained elusive, his latest record serves as a reminder of the unique impact he can have in Test cricket.
