Jimmy Kimmel’s Wife Pushes Him To Quit Late-Night Show
Jimmy Kimmel has hosted a late-night talk show on ABC for over 20 years. President Trump demanded ABC fire the talk-show host but they haven’t yet.
The popular late-night host began his annual summer vacation in June. A slew of guest hosts filled in, though he briefly returned to poke fun at the conversation surrounding Mitch McConnell’s health. Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, found time on their vacation to film a podcast episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
Jimmy Kimmel and his wife met on his talk show. She’s now a co-head writer and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! But she’s a wife first. She candidly admitted that she would love it if her husband quit the late-night show. “I would be happy to be done with the show and end it in a great way and do my own next thing,” she said.
However, she said that her husband’s role in current affairs is fundamental at this moment. “I do care deeply about that show and the people who work there, and I think the voice is really important right now,” she shared.
“As his wife, I really would like him to be able to not do the show anymore so he could relax.”
Jimmy Kimmel Talks Retirement Plans
Jimmy Kimmel previously addressed how getting suspended nearly led to his retirement. “One of the things we talked about when I first got suspended was that I can’t do this show if I’m going to be micromanaged,” he told Vulture a few months ago. Have his thoughts changed since then?
He has clearly given retirement a lot of thought. “People make a big show of like ‘I’m done and I’m tired doing this’, and then they make a lesser comeback trying to do the same thing,” he said about walking away from the popular late-night show.
Jimmy Kimmel considered what his 20-year-old self would think. “I know that 25-year-old me will be like, ‘Are you crazy?’ I would have just been so excited to work at a place that had a snack table that was free.”
Retirement isn’t in the foreseeable future, but maybe someday. “It depends on what you mean by retirement. I’m never going to stop doing things. It’s just a different scenario.”
