Rockstar Games has unveiled the first official gameplay footage from Grand Theft Auto VI, and it’s extensive.
In a timed-exclusive Netflix presentation, we got a look at nearly 30 minutes of the highly-anticipated open-world crime game. The demo begins with Bonnie & Clyde-inspired protagonists Jason and Lucia walking through a gangster-filled building before the arrival of the police leads to a firefight.
After a scene transition, we go to Jason and Lucia talking in an apartment before driving around Leonida, a fictional state based on Florida. This open-world setting includes the Miami-inspired Vice City, and those sunny, coastal vibes are on full display. The footage then jumps around a lot to showcase various elements of the game, including a police chase in which Jason is shooting at pursuing vehicles, swimming and skiing around the city, base jumping, GTA V-style character swapping between Jason and Lucia and more.
All in all, it very much looks like an upgraded version of GTA V. Everything with the third-person shooting and driving mechanics, down to the way the characters aim and snap to cover, is honestly pretty reminiscent of GTA V. And naturally, the game sports some of the most stunningly photorealistic visuals you’ve ever seen, even captured on a base PS5. But given that this is expected to be the biggest game launch in history, that sense of familiarity is undoubtedly a feature, not a bug, for many gamers.
It should also be noted that this Extended Look is only exclusive to Netflix for six hours. Starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, the demo will be available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and official GTA website. This presentation also comes after a series of major gameplay leaks, which Rockstar called “heartbreaking.”
GTA VI will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
