Moreover, she wanted others to succeed just as she had. Unfortunately, when Dolly’s husband of sixty years, Carl Dean, passed away in March 2025, her health began to decline. Fans and friends were concerned that she would not make it, and sadly, she didn’t. Dolly passed away on August 25th, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer, which she kept hidden from the public.
Now, less than a week after she passed away, Dolly has been laid to rest with her closest loved ones surrounding her. It was always going to be a private burial, but fans were asked to honor her by tagging her name on social media or on her website. Dolly’s great-niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed that she was laid to rest on Friday, August 28th. Moreover, she was buried right next to her late husband, Carl, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee. Her nephew had stated that she wanted to be laid to rest in cotton, given that she had carried so many rhinestones all her life.
The couple was polar opposites, as she loved the spotlight and he was very private. However, they came together and genuinely respected one another. She had no problem going on camping trips with him and eating at local restaurants. Yet, Dolly Parton never expected him to walk the red carpet alongside her, as she knew that was not his scene.
Honoring Dolly
Dolly Parton’s death is still very fresh, but there are plans ahead for the late country superstar. The Nashville airport is set to be renamed after her. Plus, there is a proposal to make September 25 (9/25) her day. A Broadway show is set to launch based on her life, and she would not want anyone to mourn or cry. Rather, she would want the show to go on, people to visit Dollywood, and to enjoy her legacy. Fans are leaving flowers and paying tribute outside of her home, which shows how beloved she is and always will be. Just because she is not here on Earth does not mean she is gone.
