Cincinnati shortstop Elly De La Cruz exited in the seventh inning of a 7-5 win over the host Chicago Cubs on Sunday night due to left quad tightness, the Reds announced.

De La Cruz struck out swinging in the top of the seventh inning and was replaced on the field by Matt McLain, who moved over from second base in the bottom half. Ivan Johnson entered the game at second base.

De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double (his 24th this season) and one run and one fielding error in the Reds’ victory. He raised his batting average to .271 with a .350 on-base percentage and .479 slugging percentage. He has 21 home runs and 60 RBIs in 118 games.

An All-Star in 2024 and 2025, De La Cruz entered Sunday with a career .259 batting average, 81 homers, 266 RBIs and 163 stolen bases in 538 regular-season games with the Reds since 2023.
